Developer

Before getting into UI, I was doing desktop publishing for magazine layout during the HTML1.0 days. Being the young computer guy, I was approached to create a webpage for the magazine. I broke out the very best IDE ever made, Notepad 1.0. Then came CSS, and the website started to resemeble the magazine designs. From there I've always found projects to keep up with modern layout using the latest CSS features. What younger me dealing with tables would have given to have been able to use flex.

Starting that website so had me becoming a low rent sysadmin learning Linux on the fly. Eventually, that came to be very useful in my day to day job. Learning the power of sed/awk/grep for processing large text files actually achievable and watching things complete before GUI based text editors could even open the file. Next thing you know, shell scripts are bing made because, well, I'm lazy and hate doing the same thing over and over. After all, that's why we made computers, right? Next thing you know, entire automated workflows are being made improving speed and accuracy.

After that, along comes the cloud and scalability. Now we're cooking with gas. Not only are thigs running with automation, they're now scaling up running tasks in parallel and scaling back down when the queue clears out again. Eventually, testing that scalability with the completion of over 100,000 audio files in a matter of days. Then came 75,000+ video files processed in a matter of weeks. In both cases, there were delays not in the processing but how fast the client could provide the sources to us.

"Go away or I'll replace you with a very small shell script" has been such an inspirational quote to me.

While not a frontend UI dev by modern standards as I don't use the popular JS frameworks, I can spin up a full stack system from scratch and get you a nice MVP POC going allowing you to interact with all of that backend automation before you realize a UI might be a useful thing. Now, if you really need a React based UI, I'd bet my dev partner, Claude, could get you one of those too.
